Joseph R. Francis, more commonly known as Joe, was born on April 1, 1973 in Atlanta, Georgia. He and his girlfriend Abbey Wilson are the parents of twin daughters, Alexandria and Athena, born on October 7, 2014 via in-vitro fertilization. The couple has since married.

Francis worked as a production assistant on the reality television show, Real TV. While there, he came up with the idea of another reality show entitled, Banned from Television, which looked at footage of car accidents and other graphic incidents. While viewing some potential footage for that show, he came across video of women flashing their breasts at events like Spring Break and Mardi Gras. That led to the creation of the wildly popular Girls Gone Wild video series. The controversy surrounding the series was such that Francis was accused of exploiting women, with lawsuits claiming women were filmed without their permission and that some were minors. In 2009, he would spend a year in jail for tax evasion, after having previous paid a $1.6 million fine for recordkeeping violations. In 2011, he was arrested on five charges against three women and eventually served nine months in jail. Finally, in 2012, he was ordered to pay $19 million to Las Vegas casino mogul Steve Wynn for slander, Francis claimed Wynn threatened to kill him for not paying a gambling debt.

There’s no online indication of Francis making money the past two years, but his net worth is still listed at a reported $50 million.
