Watch in HD! This is a drum cover of a song titled 'The Surge' by the band called 'Ion Dissonance'. Its off of their album titled 'Minus the Herd'. I've been a huge fan of 'Ion Dissonance' for many years now! 'Minus the Herd' is one of my favorite albums to this day. The band is just really brutal, and they have such an extreme style of writing... I've wanted to post a cover of this tune for some time now, and I finally had a minute to do so... Here it is!

This video features my new Pearl Reference kit. Its a black pearl finish with gold hardware. This kit sounds gorgeous, and I can't wait to track more with it in the future! I've wanted a Reference kit for a long time, and I am absolutely thrilled that I own one finally.

I tried some different things with this mix. I went with the 'less-is-more' theme here. hahaha! I tried using a lot more room tone and parallel compression to get my kit to sound how it does as supposed to loads of compression and EQ on each individual drum/track. I am compressing each individual drum still, and you can hear gates opening and closing... But majority of this mix is built around room tone and parallel compression as supposed to processing each drum heavily. All of the drums are natural, and I haven't blended in any samples. I am very pleased with how it turned out!
