According to legend, men believed the Kingdom Heart provided light to the world protected by its counterpart, the X-Blade. Men coveted the Kingdom Hearts' power and fashioned keyblades, but their Keyblade War cast the world in darkness. The X-Blade split into 7 pieces of light and 13 of darkness and the Kingdom Heart disappeared. Only the light of children's hearts restored the world, albeit separated into worlds populated by conflicting franchises.

Keyblade Masters were trained to protect the light, but Master Xehanort sought the Kingdom Heart to create a darker, more balanced world. He split the heart of his apprentice Ventus and stole the body of Ventus' friend Terra, causing Aqua to sacrifice herself to the Realm of Darkness. Then, through the power of obnoxious decimal titles, Xehanort stole the identity of Ansem the Wise, and Xemnas, his nobody, or body without a heart, founded Organization XIII. Thankfully, young Keyblade wielders Sora and Mickey and friends showed him time-travel's a stupid plot device. Too bad killing his Heartless and his nobody means Xehanort would be... reborn? Whatever.

So, forget Re:Coded, follow Aqua's journey through Darkness, question the mysterious Foretellers who watched the Keyblade War, and wish upon a star so they'll release a game with a nice round number.
