So in this list, I'll be showing you 5 dark and twisted secrets of K-pop

5) Slave Contracts

K-pop stars don't just get a record deal, drop an album and become stars.
In fact, most stars sign a contract when they are kids, a good decade before they ever release a record.
Agencies try and get future stars to sign these life long contracts.
For the first 10 years, these future stars are sent to a bootcamp where they train to become pop stars.
Often these contracts are so bad that they even have to pay to attend these boot camps.
Many K-pop stars who are now adults and have had smash hits find themselves still locked into these contracts.
If they try and cancel they often have to pay the agency up to three times the amount they invested into the star.
This makes getting out of these contracts extremely difficult and expensive.

4) Stars Are Pimped Out

Abuse within show business has always been a problem.
This isn't a thing solely among K-pop stars.
Hollywood has had their fair share of scandals and in recent times football clubs in the UK have been put on blast for abuse among young players.
However, the percentage of K-pop stars that have been subjected to some kind of abuse is truly shocking.
Managers of these stars have been known to essentially pimp out their stars to powerful executives within the industry.
In 2009, Korean actress Jang Ja-Yeon ended her life because of this very reason.
Her note explained how she was being pimped out to numerous executives by her manager and if she refused she would get beaten.
Two-thirds of Korean girls in the entertainment business say they've been pressured into doing it with powerful executives.
But it doesn't end with abuse, stars are also forced into having plastic surgery.
Sometimes plastic surgery is even written within their contract meaning they need to have it done or they breach their contracts.

3) They Don't Make Money

With all the dark secrets of K-pop, you'd think at least the stars get paid a lot.
This is sadly just not true.
Before a star gets a hit, they are as poor as poor can be.
Despite having a contract, they don't get paid a dime, and in many cases actually, have to pay the agency.
But even when the stars do become big, a lot of the time they still don't get paid.
K-pop ground Block B who are one of the top bands in the country have said they haven't been paid by their agency in over a year.
Sometimes stars are withheld money until they agree to do things they don't want to do.
For example, the group Stellar weren't being paid because they refused to make erotic music videos.
Finally, the group caved and had to film things such as milk dribbling out of their mouths and show a lot of skin just so they can actually get paid and survive.

2) Blackmail

With all the dodgy contracts being signed by teenagers, when one makes it big and becomes a hit, they are usually offered better deals by rival companies.
However, the agencies know this way ahead of time so they keep a little dirt on their clients.
The manager of K-pop star Baek Ji-Young went as far as to secretly film her having sex.
When she wanted to rightfully sign with another agency, her manager used the sex tape as leverage.
She called his bluff and he went on to send the tape to her family and release it online, effectively killing her career for years.
Other stars have had similar problems.
One manager found out his client was gay, and even went as far as to hire a man to seduce him so he could film the two men have sex.
Again when the star wanted to quit, he used the tape as leverage.
This kind of blackmail is really sad and although it's illegal, to fight it stars essentially know it can cost them their career.

1) Anti-Fans

If K-pop stars don't get enough grief from their own agencies and managers, you can be sure there are enough crazy anti fans who want to cause them harm.
These K-pop anti fans have gained in size, more and more people hate K-pop stars so much they are prepared to even kill them.
One person even managed to poison K-pop star Yunho, thankfully he survived but he's forever terrified meeting new people.
Daniel Lee also known as Tablo has a whole movement of people dedicated to ruining his life.
He's gotten numerous death threats, and even his mother has been subjected to abuse for no reason at all.
Has Daniel Lee done anything to deserve this?
Not at all, he's just a pop star but for some reason, some people love to hate him.
It got so bad that Lee decided to quit music because he genuinely felt scared for his life and the life of his family and children.
