6. Sai
One of the favorite weapons of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, these dagger’s are used traditionally in Okinawa. It’s a fairly simply weapon that is pointed outward with two prongs projecting from the handle. This weapon also has been used in places like India, Thailand, China, Malaysia and Indonesia, and was most likely introduced to ninjas via trade. It was also used by police in okinawa before cops had guns, to arrest criminals and to keep crowds under control. Sais are lightweight and easy to handle. It’s preferable to have 1 in each hand and this makes it much more effective.
5. NInja Sword
While they might share some resemblance to Samurai swords, ninja swords are actually quite different. Swords used by ninjas are normally straighter and shorter than samurai katanas. The swords that were found that belong to ninjas come from the Edo period. Other ninja swords before this time have not been discovered. Ninjas are always going for well things look, because normally people hide the fact that they were a ninja to begin with. Ninja’s could even use their sword, somewhat like a ladder. Then when he’s over the wall, he can pull up the sword with a strap attached to him. If the sword was curved, it might be harder to pull off this maneuver.
4. Kakute
Kakutes are metal rings, and you really don’t want to get slapped in the face by someone who’s wearing one! These were sometimes worn by ninjas and could have anywhere from 1 to 4 metal spikes on them. Mostly worn on the middle finger, these could be easily hidden and strike an enemy when they least expected it. The spiked were also dipped in poison if the ninja decided he wanted to deliver a lethal blow. While normally, ninjas didn’t like to get their hands too messy, this would more than likely cause them to get some blood on their hands. If they used these in the right way, they could damage sensitive parts of their enemy like their eyes and ears. Just be careful next time you shake hands with a ninja! He could be wearing one of these..
3. Manriki-Gusari
This simply object was one of the ninja’s favorite secret weapons they had in their arsenal. It’s basically just a chain, with two weights at the end. It can be used in two different way. The ninja can attempt to wrap the chain around the enemy’s dominant hand, and keep him from attacking that way. It also can be used more offensively when they throw it at someone. If thrown into a group of enemies, it’s large enough that it will most likely strike one if not two attackers, possibly immobilizing them. Or it could just be used similar to the way people use flails. This is fairly similar to our next one, but not exactly the same.
2. Nunchaku
No true modern day ninja is complete without a pair of handy dandy nunchucks.Another simple design, nunchucks are two sticks connected by a rope of chain and are used as a martial arts weapon. These were possibly used by lower class farmers who needed a cheap weapon originally to fight against the samurai. But eventually became popular with a little help from a martial artist, Bruce Lee. Maybe you’ve heard of him. Possession of this ninja instrument is actually illegal in some countries. Freestyle nunchaku is actually a modern style of performing art and it really used more as a prop than an actual weapon. That still doesn’t mean you want to be hit by one! It takes fast reflexes that ninjas often possess, to make this an effective tool. If you don’t know what you’re doing, you most likely just make yourself look like in an idiot and hit yourself.
1. Ninja Stars
Also known as the shuriken by the Japanese, this is one of the most iconic symbols of ninjas. Everyone has probably, at one point, heard of or even seen a ninja star during their lives. There are endless designs but their are two main types of shuriken. There’s the flat type and there’s the stick type. The plate kind are probably the ones you’re more familiar with and can inflict serious wounds. Some can have even up to 8 different points. The stick shuriken isn’t quite as easy to throw for those of you who don’t have much ninja experience on your resume. Although these maybe harder to hit you’re target, it’ll cause much more damage.
