Patriotic hymn by Katherine Lee Bates, written in 1893 and published in The Congregationalist (July4,1895). A revision was published in 1904, and in the author's America the Beautiful and Other Poems (1911). Of the 60 tunes composed for it by various musicians, those most frequently used are by W. C. Macfarlane and S. A. Ward.
